How 73-yr-old man stabbed man, 27, to death –Youth leader

More facts have emerged on how a 73-year-old man, Williams Omobude Uwadia stabbed a 27-year-old man, Gabriel Amayahu Aigbosuria, to death at Obagie community near Benin, even as homicide detectives from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Edo State Police Command yesterday stepped up investigations into the circumstances surrounding the murder.
The septuagenarian suspect was said to have had a quarrel with the deceased over a parcel of land in the community but the community youth Chairman, Osamuyimen Oghagbon, yesterday, debunked the quarrel theory. He explained that the parcel of land in question was a community land, which the elders gave to Nosakhare Ogbeide to erect a building after the said Ogbeide paid the elders N100,000 for their drink at No. 4, Zabayo Street, Benin City. According to Oghagbon, it was a thing of surprise for the community to see Williams Uwadia along with two youths of the community, Sunday Oyewense and Osagie Osaretin arrive the community with four policemen from Evbuotubu Police Station last Wednesday in an attempt to prevent construction work at the building site.
He further narrated that on seeing Uwadia, Gabriel Aigbosuria challenged him and asked, “are you not one of the elders who took part in sharing the N100,000 elders drink money from Ogbeide?” An enraged Uwadia was said to have suddenly drawn out a kitchen knife and stabbed Aigbosuria in the stomach, resulting in his intestines pulling out. In the ensuing confusion, members of the community apprehended Uwadia, Sunday Oyewense and Osagie Osaretin and handed them over to the policemen who accompanied them to the scene of crime, while Aigbosuria was immediately rushed the Central Hospital, Benin, where an initial surgery revealed that half of the kitchen knife got broken in his stomach.
He was later referred to Time Hospital, Benin, where he died before further medical attention could reach him. Inside sources revealed to Daily Sun yesterday that the four policemen who took part in the trip to Obagie to make arrest did not make entry at the station before and after their trip, just as the two young men apprehended by the community members and handed to the police along with the killer septuagenarian were said to be at large from police detention as at press time yesterday.
Only one suspect, Williams Uwadia was said to have been transferred along with the case file from Evbuotubu Police Station to the state police command on Monday for further investigation. When contacted yesterday, the acting spokesman of the Police Command, Awhara Ejiroro, said the matter would be charged to court as soon as investigations were concluded.
